What kind of room does one build in one’s sprawling mansion of rooms dedicated to single chairs, when one wishes to put a frame around a Mackintosh? Well, a novice may consider the obviousness of Art Noveau trappings. That novice may be wealthy, but he is clearly not brilliant. In my mind, only the most austere brutalist interior could hold a Hill House. A room that, yes, may well be post-impressionist, but is so far beyond post-impressionism that it calls into question everything we thought we knew about the advances of man.
